During the first round of COVID lockdown, a time when live venues were dark and struggling to stay alive, I was excited to produce the The Marjorie Luke Theatre Virtual Concert Series celebrating the diverse and amazing talents of Santa Barbara instrumentalists, vocalists, and spoken word artists. In that challenging time, we turned our lights on! In the spirit of keeping the arts alive and thriving, our staff and board aggressively pivoted to create fresh, vibrant, high-quality presentations that continue to be free to anyone who would like to enjoy them at home.
Thanks to our generous Sponsors, we were able to provide our stage and all the technical offerings of our historic theatre to area artists to perform. We created a virtual television studio in The Luke, and we videotaped each event with 3-4 cameras, editing and mixing picture and sound to create high quality productions.
As of mid March of 2021, over 650,000 people had viewed the offerings of this Series. The numbers will continue to grow with new, upcoming concerts, plays and special events which will stream at www.luketheatre.org well into the future. Strict COVID 19 safety protocols were followed in producing these events to keep our staff and artists safe and healthy.

“Perhaps the best locally-produced video made during the pandemic…that should reward repeat viewings well beyond December 18th. A voice that needs to be heard – one with deeply personal vision – delivered with both beauty and emotional nakedness. Jackson Gillies' lyrics evoke images of the often inaccessible far reaches
of the heart.”

Join us for wonderful events which you can stream 24/7 for free. New events are being created for next year. The Luke survived the pandemic! lease support The Luke Theatre with a donation, so we can continue to employ artists and technicians to create these concerts. Thank you!
I most recently directed and produced "The War Shirt" - a new solo show written and performed by Michael Downey. This powerful journey of Michael's life with his father explores rich ancestral influences and celebrates Native American, African American and LGBTQ+ cultures. It now streams at luketheatre.org.
