MARJORIE LUKE THEATRE
MARJORIE LUKE THEATRE
I had the pleasure of serving as the Founding Board President of the Marjorie Luke Theatre from 2000-2008. The Luke Theatre has been a fulfilling, exciting and landmark project for me. Returning to the theatre on the campus of Santa Barbara Junior High School where I began my career onstage, to renovate and bring back to life this beautiful, historic landmark venue, has been a great joy.
The $4 million renovation of this award-winning Spanish Colonial Revival Theatre was the most graceful development project I have ever tackled. My dear friend Anthony Edwards stepped up to the plate early on to become our lead donor. Tony earned the naming right and thus it became The Marjorie Luke Theatre.
The Luke Theatre is now a successful public/private partnership between the Santa Barbara Unified School District and the 501 c 3 organization I helped establish. Coupled with funds from Measure V, state, federal and private foundations and individual donors, the $4 million renovation was completed in the fall of 2003. Today, The Luke Theatre is home to over 145 area arts and education organizations presenting music, dance, theatre, film and special events.
